Overview
Fazbear's Fright was a horror attraction located in New Harmony, Utah as a seasonal event for the Halloween of 2015, inspired by the horror legends surrounding Freddy Fazbear's Pizza and other associated locations. It plays on the often cited Uncanny Valley Effect often brought about by animatronic mascots, as well as the corruption of childhood nostalgia by horrific circumstances.
Due to a technical failure, the attraction burned down on October 31st, 2015, at approximately 6 AM. No guests were present at the time; however, franchise cofounder Henry Emily was found dead at the scene. Most of the relics and merchandise held inside were lost, but what's left of the building remains in place to this day.
Props and Attractions
Fazbear's Fright has been praised for its use of authentic merchandise and machinery from real Fazbear Entertainment locations. The original costumes belonging to the Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy characters were incorporated into the decorations, as well as the mask originally belonging to the Puppet character. Also featured were several vintage Fazbear Family Arcade machines, including BB's Air Adventure, Mangle's Quest, and Chica's Party.
Throughout its lifetime, the attraction was able to make use of three functioning animatronic performers. The most well-known is an original Spring Bonnie model, now called Springtrap, decorated with a fake corpse. Also used is Ennard, a never-before-seen performer intended for the cancelled Circus Baby's Pizza World location. Lastly, a heap of classic animatronic machinery was recovered, redecorated, presented as the jumbled Molten Freddy. These robotic performers were mostly restrained for use as props, but some guests have reported them occasionally wandering the building freely.
Reception
Though many accused the attraction of "making light of real tragedies," the experience itself was largely showered with positive reviews. Guests described a strong sense of fear and anxiety immediately washing over them upon stepping foot in the building.
"It's a surreal experience- something about it, it's difficult to put into words. [...] You walk in, look around, soak in your surroundings, and suddenly there's this visceral sense of dread that completely captures your mind. I've never felt that way before."
