How will the games be adapted?
The first movie was mostly adapting FNaF1, incorporating many elements from 3 and 4 (spring suits, dreams, family), and some bits and pieces from elsewhere (Vanessa, BB toys, Ella), while also doing its own thing (Abby, Mr. Cupcake). The Silver Eyes did essentially the same thing, adapting mostly FNaF1, with elements from 3, and some of its own stuff (Charlie and friends, Henry, etc). So, in a vacuum, I would expect the movies and novels to follow similar trajectories. The Twisted Ones was an odd blend of 4 and SL (Afton Robotics, Twisted Nightmares), with a pinch of Springtrap. It wasn't quite "adapting" these elements, though; moreso reimagining them, using illusion discs. The Fourth Closet was SL and FFPS, directly introducing the Funtimes and Circus Baby's, ending with a reimagining of Molten Freddy. Woven into that was the big reveal of Charlie's backstory, the conclusion of the arc that the whole trilogy had been building toward.
An important difference between the novels and movies, I think, is that the novels came much earlier, adapting elements from the new games in real time, as the games were coming out. But the classic era(s) of FNaF are over now, they have been for a while, allowing Scott and the movie team a broad view of the story, with the benefit of hindsight. Scott's had lots of time to sit with the story, and to see everyone's reactions to it.
Emma Tammi (the director) has said that, since the 1st movie adapted FNaF1, the 2nd will adapt FNaF2. This is interesting. It means we're very likely to get the Withereds and Toys. We already know we're getting the Puppet, which likely means we're getting Henry and Charlotte backstory (hopefully including Fredbear's). It's possible they hold off on Springtrap until movie 3, but I doubt they'll have the restraint. So, we seem to have a good idea of the main elements movie 2 will be adapting.
What about movie 3? If Springtrap is in 2, there'll be hardly any of FNaF3 left to adapt. So, either they (somehow) hold onto Springtrap until movie 3, or they break away from this pattern of adapting the games in order.
Here's an idea: Movie 2 will blend together FNaF2 and FFPS (the two Puppet-focused games). Henry opens the new Freddy's (starring the Toys) to lure everyone together. We get a natural introduction and integration of Henry's character, as well as a reason to bring in the Puppet and Springtrap. We end with a fire, because, well... There's no way we get through this trilogy without at least one fire. That would, perhaps, leave movie 3 to adapt the Steel Wool era, with the Mimic, Vanny, and the Pizzaplex (or something similar).
Alternatively, they could save the FFPS stuff for movie 3, and let 2 focus on FNaF2. Movie 3 could be more similar to The Fourth Closet, perhaps separating William from Springtrap, and introducing Baby.
This is all assuming there'll be no more than 3 movies. 3 is the magic number for FNaF, but FNaF is also famously incapable of staying finished, so who knows. Maybe we'll get a TV show, about the Stitchwraith, or something. A proper Freddy and Friends animated series would be interesting.
Where's Garrett's soul?
Right now, the big theory is that he's in the Puppet. While this is certainly a possibility, it's lacking in evidence. I think that in general, something being a certain way in one continuity is very good evidence that it's the same way in another continuity. For this reason, I think Garrett is more likely shattered across the Classics (and/or Freddy's as a whole), just as BV is in the games. There's a bit of evidence for this in the first movie, like the way Mike "feels closer" to Garrett while at Freddy's.Here's some rough credences.
0.40 - ShatterGarrett
0.15 - He's moved on already
0.10 - He's the Puppet
0.35 - Some other unpredictable option
0.15 - He's moved on already
0.10 - He's the Puppet
0.35 - Some other unpredictable option
My hope is that the movies explore ShatterVictim, as I find it very conceptually interesting, and the games have been very shy about it. The movies being explicit about ShatterVictim could also act as a direct reveal for BV's fate in the games, which would be fitting for the trilogy's climax.
ShatterGarrett setup and reveal
The story of the novels is focused primarily on Charlie, her past, her origin, and her secretly illusory nature. The whole trilogy is essentially a buildup to this reveal, with elements of the games woven in. Book 1 introduces Charlie, the basics of her backstory (from her perspective), and uses FNaF1 to introduce the concept of souls living on in animatronics. Book 2 is all about illusion discs, which turn out to be a vital part of Charlie's origin, while also sowing doubt about her cover-up backstory. Book 3 is the big reveal, using Baby to formally introduce us to the Charliebots. What if the movies did something similar, but for ShatterVictim? Movie 1 has already introduced spirits, their connection to dreams, and the malleability of their memories. Movie 2 could introduce soul shattering, with the MCI being split between the Withereds and Toys. Mike, or someone else, has to put them back together. Like in The Fourth Closet, this could result in a version of Molten Freddy, with the Withereds and Toys conglomerated into one vessel, Garrett's pieces put together. That leads, perhaps, to movie 3, with the big reveal.
To Afton or not to Afton
Is Movie Mike an Afton??I don't know.
I won't go through the standard arguments here, but ultimately I just don't think the evidence leans too far in either direction. There is a related, slightly more out-there possibility I will discuss, though. If Mike is an Afton, could his memories of his family have been manipulated by William, or even entirely fabricated?
This is another candidate for a trilogy-long arc, alongside ShatterGarrett, which could fill a similar role to the Charliebot reveal. Movie 1 put a lot of focus on Mike's memory of the kidnapping, and specifically the idea that he couldn't recognize the killer (William) in the memory, no matter how hard he tried. Other than that, the main plot of the movie is about how William is manipulating the memory of the missing children. The missing children even create Mike a fake memory of their own, in exchange for Abby. That's to say, memory manipulation is very much an established mechanic.
"You know what's crazy is, when Garrett and I were kids, they were like, the most perfect parents you would see on all the TV shows.
Like every night, we would sit down together, we'd have family dinner, and we'd hold hands and say grace, and..."
This is, arguably, a bit suspicious. And now, both of Mike's parents are (in)conveniently absent from the story (though, they do appear in a family picture).
That's just a random idea, I'm not sure it should be taken very seriously.
Hopes and dreams
I want to see RWQFSFASXC! Lolbit! Paperpals! How will Mike react to the real Balloon Boy? Will BB, JJ, and DeeDee team up to defeat XOR? Give me at least one Plushbaby, please.I have little doubt we'll see some version of Happiest Day. My hope is that the abstraction is preserved, as well as the tone. Abby will get emotional as her friends are put to rest. Garrett's involvement should be explicit.
Like everyone else, I hope to see more of Afton. Springtrap tends not to "do much" across FNaF's stories, so I'm very interested in what role the movie gives him.
I imagine I will enjoy the coming movies regardless of what path they take.
